A simple story often makes for the best story

Based on the novel by Larry Watson, Let Him Go, hit theaters this week. Starved for something new to watch — I was so excited to see this film. Starring a couple of true stars of the big screen in Diane Lane and Kevin Costner, Let Him Go looked like a movie that would be filled with good guys kicking bad guys’ butts. What actually came across the screen however, was different. Some bad guys got their butts kicked alright— but it didn’t quite go like I thought it would. …
Will you root for the country’s success even if your guy doesn’t win?
Normally I just write movie and television reviews on here. In my day to day life, I’m married to a woman who is way out of my league, I have two sons who I could not be more proud of, and I own a video and media production company. I am blessed beyond words, and am so thankful for what I have and who I get to live my life with.
Like many of my fellow Americans, I have sincerely held political beliefs, along with a faith in God that sustains me in all that I do. If asked, or the opportunity arises, I will share my faith in Christ and all that He has done for me. I believe it to be just as, if not more important, to live the life He has asked of me for all to see. Politics, however…Well, that’s a different matter. I generally don’t share those beliefs unless I’m very comfortable with who I’m around, and trust that if we happen to see things differently, we can agree to disagree — without being disagreeable. As much as I think it’s extremely important to educate yourself, understand who and what you’re voting for, I don’t think it’s worth losing friends and family over, so in most cases, I just keep my mouth shut or politely excuse myself from the conversation. I’ve watched people who have known each other for years, abandon their relationship over Presidents, Senators, and the like. On social media it’s even worse. When hiding behind a keyboard, talking to someone they may or may not know — people become downright despicable. It’s hard to understand. After all, in America, once the elections are done and over — we’re all on the same team. …
Sometimes the best stuff on Netflix has Subtitles: To the Lake, La Révolution, and Into the Night.
We’ve all done it…Skipped around Netflix for something to watch — with the search sometimes being longer than whatever it was we ended up watching. When you have so much to choose from (especially with so many shows and movies you’ve never heard of), it can take a while to finally decide. …
Could this be the way 2020 ends?

After watching Love and Monsters, and with a few months left of 2020 — I wondered aloud if this movie might not be a prediction of future events, based on how things have gone so far this year. Let’s face it — if some asteroid was going to smash into Earth, and after we destroyed it all the insects on the planet turned into giant man-eating monsters — would you be surprised at this point? …
Netflix’s follow up to The Haunting of Hill House is available now for streaming.
3.5 out of 5
The Haunting of Hill House was one of Netflix’s best received original series when it launched in 2018. Roundly praised for its story, production, and overall spookiness — Hill House left viewers wanting more. So Netflix turned once again to Mike Flanagan (creator of The Haunting of Hill House), who used Henry James’ novella The Turn of the Screw (among other James’ works) to create The Haunting of Bly Manor.
While perhaps not as scary as its predecessor, Bly Manor certainly has its moments and the story and characters are compelling enough to hope that Netflix will continue with Flanagan in order to create another entry into The Haunting series. …
Adam Sandler is back with a new comedy on Netflix

Halloween is around the corner — and with all the old horror faves replaying, you might be looking for something new to add to your collection of fall regulars. If you have Netflix, click on over the Hubie Halloween and give it a watch. If you don’t have anything pressing and don’t mind feeding your brain with stuff that just doesn’t weigh that much — I think you’ll find Hubie Halloween to be a nice little reprieve from everything else going on.
Like most of Adam Sandler’s comedies, this movie isn’t going to take home any awards — and yes — it does feel like another movie he made in order to give all of his friends (including his wife and daughters) something to do — but in the end, it’s got heart and will make you laugh more than a couple of times. …
A Fun and Chilling Re-Telling of the Classic Story
The Dark Universe was supposed to be Universal’s answer to Marvel, DC and even the MonsterVerse that Legendary Entertainment has put forth. It was going to feature all of the classic horror characters many of us have grown to love: Dracula, the Mummy, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide, The Wolf Man and more. But ever since the first movie hit theaters with Dracula Untold in 2014, things have not gone as planned. After that film flopped, Universal went back to the drawing board and re-tooled and were ready to re-launch things with The Mummy, featuring Tom Cruise in 2017. Strike two. …
A Masterclass in Film Making

Up until seeing this film, I figured Joker was a cinch for the best picture of 2019. Though 1917 is being released in full this weekend, it did get a small release at the end of the year, therefore qualifying it for the awards season that is currently underway — but I hadn’t positioned it as a threat to Todd Phillips’ masterpiece. I really thought it was going to be a smaller version of Saving Private Ryan. …

Written by the same people who wrote Sherlock for BBC, Netflix and BBC just released Dracula, a new spin on a story that has been told many times over the years — starting with the 1897 book by Bram Stoker with the same title.
If you watched Sherlock, with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, then you probably were just as excited for this limited series as I was. That show was simply addicting. Cumberbatch and Freeman were perfect together, and the way the stories were adapted and brought forward into modern times was simply brilliant. The bar then, was set very high for me on Dracula. …

Unless you’ve been living under a rock — you’ve likely heard about Disney +’s The Mandalorian. And if that doesn’t ring a bell — then surely you’ve seen Baby Yoda a half a million times on social media by now. Released in eight parts starting back on November 12th, The Mandalorian is Disney’s attempt to get Star Wars onto the small screen, and potentially salvage some fans who have been upset with the trilogy continuing the Skywalker Saga. So far, it looks like it’s working…
Jon Favreau, who was an executive producer on all four of Disney’s Avengers movies (along with several other Disney films), created and is executive producer for this series. Since it’s release he is quickly earning a lot of love from the Star Wars hive of fans. With The Mandalorian, Favreau has set himself up very nicely for a long, lucrative run at Disney (more so than he already had), and my guess is he’ll have his hand on many force-related items going forward. But the big question for me as I started watching the series was: “Is it really that good? Or were people just starved for something different than the Abrams / Johnson films?” …
